General Virtualization topics plus IBM i specific examples
Imagine going into a store to buy a new laptop or tablet and being told that for the price of a single laptop, you can have two, three or thirty laptops! That's kind of what virtualization is. In this session Walden will review the general positioning of virtualization, discuss the options for virtualization on Windows and Linux platforms and look at the use of virtualization in the cloud. Mike will then look at how PowerVM IBM has opened up the world of virtualization on IBM i and how with the right hardware, you can pop out new i partitions as "virtual machines," sharing network, storage, CPU and memory. Virtualization may also help you save on software licensing, energy costs and data center floor space. Whether you want to virtualize just IBM i, explore the possibilities of VIOS (Virtual I/O Server), leverage all those PC servers you have, or understand how this all fits in the world of cloud, you’ll find the information you need here.
